Gujarat Technological University (GTU) was established on the 16th of May 2007 under the Gujarat Act No. 20 of 2007 with the Vision “To be a global university for the creation and dissemination of knowledge and Innovation in Science & Technology, Humanities and Multidisciplinary domains for sustainable development and enrichment of human life” and the Mission “To develop centres of academic excellence at university premises and at affiliated colleges in domains of science, engineering, technology, management, and environment for imparting comprehensive education, training, and research infrastructure as per the nation requirements; To build resources, facilities, proficiencies and other related infrastructure at global standard for the development of knowledge, skills, and competencies in the various educational domains; To develop research-oriented pedagogy for flourishing ideas and to nurture innovators, entrepreneurs and professionals of tomorrow; To build and enhance collaborations with other academic, research, industry, and government organizations as well as NGOs across the globe so that education, training and research at the university and its affiliated colleges become aligned with national and global level requirements; To encourage multidisciplinary research and develop a flexible learning ecosystem”.
Among the varsities in the state, GTU is the largest university imparting knowledge by identifying the need for hour technical and cutting-edge programs with a high-quality benchmark to meet the future national and international skill requirements. Apart from the 430+ colleges affiliated with GTU, the university also runs its own five schools viz., Graduate School of Pharmacy (GSP), Graduate School of Engineering and Technology (GSET), Graduate School of Management Studies (GSMS), School of Applied Sciences and Technology (SAST) and Gujarat Power Engineering and Research Institute (GPERI). With the amalgamation of the New Education Policy 2020, the University has also introduced Integrated Master’s programs into its academic profile. With respect to the current infrastructure of the university as a whole, the university campus consists of three locations, Chandkheda campus (headquarters), Gandhinagar campus and Mehsana campus. However, the university has got a land allocation at Lekawada, Gandhinagar, wherein the new sustainable and vast campus shall be built and the various campus shall be brought together at one single location for ease of administration and to provide more efficient and state-of-the-art infrastructure to deliver the University’s “Mission” more efficiently.
Currently, in its 15th year since establishment, the university has soared to new heights and made a mark in academics and has contributed significantly to the overall development of society. GTU recognizes the financial stature of students and the importance of education for their upliftment in the society. In this regard, the University by considering the academic track record of students offers financial aid in the form of scholarships and fee waivers (complete or percent). Moreover, to stop the migration of young professional minds and to nurture them on our own land, university-level fellowships and funding for doctoral and post-doctoral programs were initiated to provide a reasonable financially aided platform for dealing with subject areas of regional as well as national importance for future developments with a professional gateway of foreign collaborations.
To achieve sustainable developments, the university has kept the practice of strengthening itself by making active collaborations by means of student and faculty exchange programs with various academic and industrial entities at national and international levels which ultimately contributes to the building of confident, competent and flexible student personalities. With very supportive technology transfer and other university regulations, GTU is currently in partnership with more than 35 countries across the globe. On the whole, the University is always striding ahead to hold its tagline by being an International Innovative University in a true sense.
